Level 01

Level 1

Thank you Mark for the insight in the level 1 meeting and the heirlooms, I’m really enjoying how my mind can’t stop thinking about what could soon be and how to get there. I’ve been struggling, however, with setting up my mini-day schedule, and was hoping I could get some assistance with it. I work as a warehouse coordinator, and my workload is inconsistent. After deliveries are completed, my job is to process whatever the drivers brought back to the warehouse, whether it is property not delivered or customer returned. I inspect the property and then decide where it will be sent. If it’s undamaged and unused, it can go back into stock. If damaged, it can go to the repair area or sold at a discounted price. Some items go to the scrap metal area to be shipped to a recycling facility. My daily tasks can be broken down fairly easily, and I’ve noticed a massive productivity boost when focusing on each physical movement individually. However, scheduling time frames or mini-days for them is where I’m struggling. For checking in drivers, I have 2 basic movements: 1) Inspecting property and 2) Data Entry. For items sent to stock, I have 3 basic movements: 3) Organizing carts with similar and like items. 4) Scan Carts/Items into system. 5) Transport Carts/Items to respective locations. For items sent to scrap, I only have one movement: 6) Load Scrap Metal onto trailer. For items sent to repair or to be sold with minor damage, another team picks them up and takes over the handling and care so occasionally all I need to do is consolidate space to make room for more items to be sent there, thus I placed that and other occasional tasks under 7) Operations. My issue with setting up a mini-day schedule for these movements is inconsistencies in workload. My team checks in anywhere from 20 – 40 trucks a day and each truck returns to the warehouse anytime between noon and 10pm. Some trucks come back with several items that can range from all items are sent to a single area to scattered evenly to all areas. While other trucks don’t bring back anything other than trash. The closest I’ve been able to schedule mini-days is through cycles. After a truck returns, I go through all 7 movements in order as work is available. If multiple trucks return at the same time then the team splits into individual areas as needed and cycle the few movements for each area. Any advice to improve the set up would be greatly appreciated.
