The Man in the Mirror Is Gone, Michael Jackson

 

What inspires you?  For me it was a little boy that I first saw on television singing with his brothers, the Jackson Five.   The song was I’ll Be There.   You know during this time in my life as a little girl, I actually began to dream of a brighter future.  Seeing Michael singing I’ll Be There on that day caused me to believe in heroes, to believe that people could become greater than their stance in life; I mean after all, I was watching a little boy singing on  national television with a song that crossed over so many barriers for that day.   He was  a child star in a time when no one ever thought another child would even dominate television as had Shirley Temple.   He was a boy of African American heritage visible on television when the only acceptable African American television star was that which was portrayed with Mr. Al Jolson’s face painted black as he waved his white gloved hand.   I often wondered if this was a reason the Michael wore the white glove.   In 1968, the Jackson Five signed with Motown Records and moved to California . The group ruled the charts in the late 1960s and early ’70s, and its first four singles, I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save and I’ll Be There, all became No. 1 American hits. The Jackson Five recorded 14 albums and Michael Jackson recorded four solo albums with Motown.   This man was my child star hero, and I actually cried when I heard he had passed away.  These were the songs in my life that have always been close to my heart.   I have always known that this man, Michael Jackson, was one of a kind, so gifted, so beautiful; what a genius.  It is this type of genius displayed in the lives of regular humans that assures me there is something greater in the grand scheme of things.   I believe it is when the gifted become the gift.   It is love ever present through out eternity that touches the soul, just as Michael Jackson has the lives of so many others.    Don’t worry Michael, I will be there singing your praise into eternity with you.   We truly walk the undefeated live into immortality.  My love always; I carry you in my heart.
